The Puppy Room
The Puppy Room at Doggy Day Academy
Every big adventure starts small… and for our youngest students, that journey begins in the Puppy Room.
We know that puppies aren’t just little dogs – they have very different needs.
That’s why we’ve designed a calm, supportive space just for them, giving them the best possible start to their daycare life.
The First Month: A Gentle Introduction
When your puppy first joins Doggy Day Academy, they will spend their trial month in the Puppy Room. During this time, your pup will:
- Receive lots of one-to-one attention from a canine tutor, helping them feel safe, secure, and understood
- Be gently introduced to our routines, with the right balance of rest, play, and learning
- Build confidence at their own pace, with carefully planned exposure to new experiences
At the end of the trial month, we’ll invite you to a parents’ meeting.
This is where we share insights about how your puppy has settled, what they’ve learned, and make a joint decision about the next stage of their Academy journey.
Until Six Months of Age
Your puppy will remain based in the Puppy Room until they reach six months old. But that doesn’t mean they’re isolated!
They’ll enjoy:
- Short, supervised introductions to dogs of different breeds, sizes, and ages.
- Outdoor play and exploration.
- Plenty of downtime – because rest is as important as play for healthy growth.
Skills and Benefits
Puppies in our care gain vital life lessons, including:
- Social skills with dogs of all shapes and play styles.
- Calmness, focus, and the ability to switch off.
- Confidence with people, novelty, sounds, surfaces, and smells.
- The beginnings of recall, impulse control, and flexibility.
Common Puppy Challenges We Help With
- Mouthing and nipping – guiding your puppy towards more appropriate chewing choices.
- Jumping up – teaching calmer, polite greetings instead.
- Over-tiredness and difficulty settling – helping puppies learn when and how to switch off.
- Harness and lead worries – making equipment a positive, comfortable experience.
- Separation struggles – gently building confidence in being away from their people.
- Over-the-top boisterous play – encouraging balanced, safe interactions with other dogs.
Working Together with Owners
We also support you, the puppy parent, with options to:
- Add tailored one-to-one training sessions for your pup.
- Join our owner training courses to practise at home what your puppy is learning with us.
When Can They Start?
Your puppy can join the Puppy Room as soon as they’ve completed their vaccination course. From that moment, we’re here to guide them every paw-step of the way.
At Doggy Day Academy, the Puppy Room is more than just a play space – it’s the foundation for a lifetime of confidence and calmness
